How to have a stress free wedding

4 top tips to help couples avoid stress around their wedding

Stress is the one thing I want couples to avoid both on the lead up to their wedding and on the day itself, which is why I’m share my top tips on how to have a stress free wedding. The wedding day flies by so quickly you don’t want to waste time and energy worrying or stressing about things that were avoidable or simply out of your control.

It’s important you enjoy the whole process from the proposal right up to the last song on your wedding day so take a look through my top tips and see if they can help you have a stress free wedding journey.

1. Prioritise and be organised

Let’s be honest there is A LOT to do when it comes to planning a wedding and it can get on top of you if you let it, so the biggest bit of advise I can give you is to be organised. Start planning for your big day early if you can and give yourselves plenty of time to find your suppliers, enjoy a few wedding fairs and for any DIY projects you had in mind. The last thing you want is to feel rushed.

I highly recommend couples sit down together and work out what matters most to them for their wedding, create a list in priority order and start with the top of the list. With this list you can focus on the most important things first and secure your favourite suppliers early on, avoiding the stress of missing out and extending your search. If you have given yourself lots of time to plan you will be able to get a few priority suppliers booked in and then sit back and relax before moving down the list.

Keeping track of your budget and your to do list is also a great help. If you can create a spreadsheet of whats booked, how much everything costs and whats left to do you will have a lot less stress as the wedding approaches.

What are your priorities?

2. Hire a wedding planner

If you’re short of time or not great with organisation I would definitely recommend hiring a wedding planner if you have the budget for it. Wedding planners are your personal assistant, they keep track of your suppliers, liaise with your venue and make sure everything runs smoothly on the day.

There are lots of different wedding planners who specialise in different types of weddings and offer very different package options. Here are a couple of great local planners for different budgets –

3. Ask for help and hand out jobs

I totally understand that some couples want to plan their wedding on their own, me and my husband were the same, so a wedding planner isn’t for everyone. If you plan to create the wedding of your dreams as a couple then don’t be afraid to ask your friends and family for help.

If you have lots of DIY projects on the go or lots of great ideas you want to make for the big day then get others involved to lighten the load. You could have a few crafty nights in with the girls to get all those save the dates done or spend a day making decorations together, have fun with it.

Before the wedding day make a list of all the jobs you have to do the day before or the morning of the wedding and start handing jobs out to your nearest and dearest. You don’t have to do everything yourself and it’s so important you relax and enjoy the morning as the excitement builds. Discuss these jobs with your wedding venue too, they can often do most of the jobs for you.

4. Don’t put pressure on yourself

This is another super important point to remember, please don’t put too much pressure on yourself! That means not making too much work for yourselves or giving yourself all the jobs, let go and allow others to get stuck in.

When wedding planning it may seem like your to do list just grow and grows, if it feels overwhelming take a step back and access the situation. Do you need to do everything on the list? What can you cut off and what can you give to other to do? Your to do list is only as long as you make it and it is always better to remove things enjoy the whole process more then have everything you originally wanted and feel stressed.

On your wedding day remember don’t sweat the small stuff! Everything you needed to get married is done and ready to go and that’s all that really matters.
