Make the most of your summer wedding

Wedding ideas for couples getting married in Summer

As many couples will be aware, getting married in summer often comes at a higher price so I’ve got a few great ideas to help you make the most of your summer wedding and create a day worth every penny!

In summer we can enjoy warmer temperatures, summer sun, longer days and lots of greenery, which a summer wedding can take full advantage of. Here I will tell you how…

Being outside

We all love being outside in summer so why not take your wedding outside with an outdoor ceremony, outdoor drinks reception or both! Most venues have outdoor space so make the most of what you have available. You could offer summer cocktails in the garden, like Pimms or Mojitos, and have games on the grass to entertain your guests until dinner time.

Spending more time outside is great for photos, not only is there ample light but everyone can spread out a little which makes it much easier to work around all the guests without being noticed.

Longer days and more light

Weddings in summer have the bonus of longer day light hours, which means it’s easier to spread planned photos out across the day. There isn’t a concern about fitting all your group and couples photos into an hour or so before dinner and you can relax with your guests for longer. You can take advantage of the moving sun, getting photos at different times throughout the day, especially into the evening when the sun is low in the sky.

Sunset can be very late in the peek of summer but it is low for much longer so you can still get some beautiful golden hour photos before your photographer heads home.

Evening fire pits

This idea will depend on your venue, but most tipi and outdoor venues will offer a fire pit as an addition to your evening reception. If this is available to you I would highly recommend it, you can relax outside with your guests as the sun sets and cook marshmallows into the night. I’ve been to a number of weddings with fire pits and they always evoke fun and spontaneous behavior amongst the guests so expect some impromptu singing and dancing around the fire with drinks in hand.

Ice cream vans

Ice cream comes hand in hand with summer and warm weather so why not get an ice cream van to turn up in the evening for a sweet treat. You could even offer your guests a soft scoop cone for dessert and have some hilarious photos of you and your other half trying your hand at serving. This idea is great for saving a few pounds on catering, adds something fun and unique to the day and entertains your guests at the same time.

Camping out

If you have the option of a fire pit then you will probable have the space for you and your guests to camp out as well. This is such a special thing to do on your wedding day!

Your wedding can last into the early hours, you can sleep under the stars and a newly married couple and wake up to enjoy breakfast with your guests the next day too.
