Why you should have an engagement session

3 great reasons why

To capture the most natural photos of a couple it’s important that they are relaxed and having fun, a big part of this is getting to know the person behind the camera and knowing what to expect – people are more afraid of the unknown then the camera.

So what better way to prepare yourselves then have an awesome engagement session before the big day? I include a complimentary engagement session with all of my wedding photography packages for a few very good reasons.

1.It is the perfect opportunity for me to get to know the couple better. I love hearing all about couples wedding plans but during an engagement session I can find out even more about who they are and what their relationship is like.

2. It’s also the perfect opportunity for couples to get to know me too. The more you get to know someone the more you trust and respect them. Your wedding photographer will spend more time with you then most of your guests on your wedding day so you want to feel comfortable and relaxed around them.

3.Engagement sessions allow couples to experience how I work and what it’s like to be in front of the camera. Experiencing it before the big day removes the anxiety of not knowing what will happen and allow you to relax, which also mean awesome photos!

So many couples start off an engagement session saying how much they hate having their photo taken but always end the session telling me how much fun it was. With my style of photography in particular there is no static posing or looking at the camera, I prefer to have motion or emotion in my images so get couples to engage with each other and have fun.

The best thing about having an engagement session is of course the awesome photos you will have after, photos that can be used to decorate your guest book table or even your dining tables for the wedding breakfast.

There are many things you can do on an engagement session that you may be more reluctant to do on your wedding day (although I encourage everything and anything on the big day if your up for it!). For instance piggy backs and swinging your loved one around isn’t as easy with a big gown or tight suit trousers on, so make the most of your engagement shoot, let your imagination run wild. Go to your favourite places, do your favourite activities, bring your favourite things and be yourself.
